About Me

Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of times in the workshop with my Dad and Grandpa when they created homemade toys, games, and other projects. I have degrees in Visual Arts and English Literature, and at one time, I had aspirations to become a film animator or art educator. I became a 30-year career educator, first as a teacher and now as an elementary school principal in Waterloo Region, Ontario. Now a self-taught designer, woodworker and small business owner, I continue to connect with and leverage my creative side. I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with clients and other creatives, learning new skills and expanding my tools and repertoire.

Now It’s Personal started in my home garage in the spring of 2023 with a desire to create a personal sign project with a scroll saw I inherited from my Dad. Clients of my wife, Jennifer’s, home child care business, saw me at work and inquired about personalized signs for their children’s rooms. From there I began to offer and fulfill custom sign orders for homes and home offices, cottages, RVs and businesses, combining scroll saw work with laser cutting and engraving.
